Should we rely on Alexa ranking and Domain authority to improve SEO?

Then talking about website SEO, we will find that there are dozens of factors that affect the site’s ranking within the search results, and indeed there are many important factors that, when controlled within the site, obtain a good ranking in the search results.

But many users have recently come to rely on external factors in determining the quality of their site’s SEO, and one of the most famous of these factors is the famous Alexa ranking, which ranks all sites online from number 1 to number that may reach a billion or more.

There is also the factor (domain credibility) or what is called Domain authority, which some users care about instead of paying attention to the content of the site and all internal factors, in their belief that the higher the Domain authority of the site, the higher the site’s pages will be in search engines.

In this article, we take you on a quick tour of the famous Alexa website ranking system, as well as the Domain Authority factor, and the extent to which these factors affect the SEO of websites in search engines. How are they used in a way that does not negatively affect the website.

How does Alexa rank websites online?

Alexa is a website and service owned by Amazon, a global company. Alexa owns a global data center that is used to collect data on millions of sites spread across the Internet in various ways, which makes the platform possess massive data on almost all sites on the Internet.

In addition, Alexa provides a browser add-on that the user can install on his browser to collect data and information about the performance of websites with one click. At the same time, the add-on collects data about the websites that are browsed on a daily basis, and sends that information to the data center. its own, making it available to all users later.

Basically, Alexa ranks sites spread around the Internet, where the lower the ranking number, the better the performance of the site from Alexa’s point of view, meaning that a site with a rank of 10 is better than a site with a rank of 100, and it depends on the following factors in making this ranking:

  1. Number of visits to the site in 3 months : Alexa counts the number of visits to the site in the last three months, and relies on this number of visitors to compare the site with competing sites and accordingly gives each site its ranking according to the number of visits.
  2. Number of daily visits : Alexa also relies on counting daily visits to rank the site with competitors, and the total daily number of site visits is considered one of the most important factors upon which the site is ranked.

Of course, there may be many other unknown factors for ranking sites in Alexa, but we mentioned the two most famous factors.

We note that Alexa is primarily concerned with the number of visits that enter the site on a daily basis, and therefore we find that most of the sites that are in the list of (highest ranked sites) in Alexa are news sites that receive a large number of visits daily.

Misconceptions about Alexa ranking of websites

Some website owners treat the Alexa ranking as being directly linked to the ranking of search engines such as Google, Bing, and others, but the truth is that the Alexa installation is completely separate and has no connection with the search engines. It is a separate service from the rest of the search engines whose goal is to monitor website data. And creating reports about the best sites based on many factors, the most famous of which is the number of visits to the site.

When a site gets a good ranking in Alexa, this does not necessarily mean that the site’s pages have advanced on search engines, as you may find noticeable progress for the site in Alexa while it is not followed by progress in search engines and vice versa, so you should not rely on Alexa’s rank in determining the extent of Website compatibility with search engines.

One of the most common misconceptions that some users also believe is that the Alexa service is only for determining the ranking of websites globally or locally, but it is considered a comprehensive analytical tool that can be used in many aspects, and we will explain this in detail in the following paragraphs.

Is Alexa ranking considered a measure of website SEO?

Improving a website’s SEO depends on improving its ranking and performance with search engines. For example, the famous Google search engine relies on many of its own comparison factors rather than other search engines, as well as other analytical tools.

Therefore, Alexa ranking cannot directly affect the site’s SEO in one way or another, as it is a completely separate service from the search engines and their evaluation of the site’s performance.

How do I benefit from Alexa to improve the performance of my site?

As we mentioned previously, Alexa is not only a tool for ranking the strength of websites in terms of the number of visitors and popularity only, but it is a comprehensive service that provides many distinctive tools that can be used to obtain very important statistics about the website.

The tools provided by Alexa can be relied upon to completely improve the site’s performance, which is then reflected in improving its performance within search engines.

When you paste a website link into the Alexa analytical tool, you can obtain a lot of useful data for your site, as the following image shows the result of testing one of the sites, as it shows the number of search words for which the site can obtain a good ranking within the search engines if attention is paid. Content on the site:

Therefore, you can learn about more search words that you can work on improving your site to rank well in search engines.

The tool also provides a report on the sites competing with your site, as it shows you a complete list of all the sites that compete with your site for many search terms, as the image shows:

Thus, you can access competitors’ websites and benefit from the improvements they have to apply them to your site and improve its performance better.

The tool also provides the Site Metrics report shown in the following image, which provides useful data about how long visitors stay on the site, the number of pages that each visitor accesses while browsing the site, as well as the bounce rate of visitors outside the site and other data that benefits you as a site owner in order to provide a user experience. More useful for visitors:

You will also find in the site analysis report the ranking number for your site on Alexa, which we explained how to measure it and the criteria that the tool relies on to calculate it. The lower the ranking number for your site, the stronger and more famous the site becomes according to the Alexa tool.

Should you care about your website ranking in Alyska?

In fact, as we mentioned, the Alexa ranking is not the primary criterion for ranking your site in search engines and improving its performance, but it is a number that is given to your site based on many factors, the most important of which are the number of visits and the rate of visitors remaining on the site.

We do not advise you to spend a lot of time looking at the ranking of a site in Alexa and trying to improve it because in the end, a good Alexa installation does not guarantee you better performance within search engines, so what is best for you as a site owner is to pay attention to the content of your site and provide an excellent user experience for visitors.

When you pay attention to the content of your site and improve its performance by relying on some analytical tools such as Google Analytics to take advantage of that data in providing the best content to the visitor, you will automatically find that the site’s ranking on Alyska has improved as a result of the improvements you have made to the site, so we advise you to pay attention to your site, its content, and the user experience without worrying about it. Striving for a distinguished ranking on Alyska because it is a result of the improvements you make to your site and nothing more.

The effect of Domain Authority in raising the site in search results

The term Domain Authority, or what is known for short as DA, refers in its meaning to the strength and credibility of the domain, but in practice it does not guarantee that DA will improve the site’s SEO. Here is the following image that shows you an example of two different sites in Google search results, and you will notice in the image that the site that occupies the rank Higher in search has a lower DA than a site that ranks lower in Google search:

Thus, we conclude that the DA value does not necessarily determine the location of the site within the different search results.

Who determines the DA value of a site and how is it determined?

The Google search engine does not measure what is known as DA and does not rely on it officially in determining the ranking of sites within search engines, as the owner of this measure is some site analysis tools such as the tool: MOZ, which specializes in analyzing sites and measuring their strength and performance within various search engines.

Therefore, you must know at the beginning that the DA value is a value dependent on the analysis tool, and therefore we cannot consider it a primary factor for search engines in ranking website pages within the various search results.

Basically, the DA value is measured based on the number of external links that the site gets from other sites. The more links that point to your site, the higher the DA value you will notice when measured by one of the specialized tools such as the MOZ tool or other tools that provide these measurements.

Is it necessary to work on increasing the DA value to improve SEO?

A common mistake among some website owners is that they focus too much attention on increasing the DA value in unprofessional ways, such as exaggerating the backlinks. These links may be illegal or unfavorable to search engines such as Google and Bing, and thus the site obtains the DA value. However, the website owner is surprised by the sudden decline in his site’s ranking due to those links that were built randomly and are not useful to the site’s visitors.

Instead of working to increase the DA value of your site and being overly preoccupied with this number, we advise you to focus on the content of your site and the user experience within it, which are the most important criteria for ranking your site in search results.

We emphasize here that the site’s DA value is not a standard affiliated with the Google search engine at all. It is a standard created by the developers of the famous MOZ tool, so a high value does not guarantee that the site will be improved within the various search engines.

In the end, search engines basically arrange sites within the various search results based on one basic factor, which is the extent of the benefit that the visitor gets from the content. Therefore, Google and the rest of the search engines do not rely on a specific factor to rank sites in the search results, but rather they compare several factors. Factors in order to ensure that the visitor will receive great benefit when visiting the site.

If you use site SEO analysis tools, try to use them to improve your site’s content and provide a useful browsing experience to the greatest extent possible for your site’s visitors. Do not chase some analysis tool numbers such as DA, Alexa ranking, etc., and instead focus more on what the visitor will get. The greatest benefit will be when it enters your site, and then you will find that search engines will see that the site is indeed suitable for appearing in searches.
